Very nice photos, good compostion, and high color saturation but natural looks to it. This photo "Columns pop up in the oddest places" reminds me of a painting I've seen, but Ican't remember which painting. Really nice shot. I'm too a Pentax K-5 shooter. I defected from Nikon camp. My old SLR was a Nikon N70.

Hey Jackie, I didn't use a third flash in that shot, but I now have two more AB 800s as well as a beauty dish for them, so I'll be encorporating more light into my portrait stuff as I go. I'm also considering the AB moon unit for that purpose. But thanks for the tip!

As for the CFL on the ABs, I doubt it. First, they're very large and, secondly, they're not variable power. The ABs are able to sync the modelling light to the power settings, so you'd want to have a bulb that can properly do that.

Great article... I have one question. Did you use a flash on the camera to give and add more fill light to the face and eyes? By adding the flash or pop up flash on the camera, it would have add more light to their face and POP those beautiful eyes.

Great job!

oh, before I go... I was wondering the light bulbs (cfl) that you used with the first light kit set, could it be used on the Alienbees?

Thanks!

You can learn photography, or you can 'feel' photography, or you can do both (or neither I guess). To be a great photographer requires more than just 'gear'. John you hit the nail on the head. To be a great photographer you need to find a way to put what you 'see' onto the sensor of your camera by using most, if not all, of your senses. Only then will the end result be truly inspiring. I think it is a more difficult journey now, with all the digital enhancements, than it was in the early days. Now, we have seen it all, but then it was a new and exciting technology.

Mr. Cavan - I was wondering if you might be open to allowing us to use some of your photos for our website - our unit photographer was unavailable at Loyalist Days!

Sincerely,
